Ohio Players ~ Love Rollercoaster 1975 Disco Purrfection Version
Time to add some funk to the mix! The Ohio Players first came together in 1959 as the Ohio Untouchables, that broke up in 1963 when charter member Robert Ward left the band. The rest of the band went back to Dayton to regroup and then became the house band for Compass Records of New York. 1970 saw the second break up of the band, but added a few new members and had a minor hit in 1971 with "Pain". 1973 saw then garner their first bona fide hit, albeit a novelty song called "Funky Worm" that hit #1 R&B and top 20 on the Hot 100. Signed to Mercury Records in 1974, they released two albums, "Skin Tight" the slinky funky title song that peaked at #13 pop and #2 R&B, and then "Fire" and that title song peaked at #1 pop and R&B. Known for their sexy album art, their next release "Honey" featured a naked female model suggestively consuming honey. "Love Rollercoaster" was released and it also peaked at #1 pop and R&B. Eventually, the Players lost track of the funk and ran out of gas after the #18 showing of "Who'd She Coo".
